A point to remember is once you start to increase the magnification, you will also start to increase the amount of shakiness or wobble of the image you are viewing.
You will need at least a 7 or 8 times power (or magnification zoom) binoculars to clearly see and identify the birds you are watching.
Any less and you'll have trouble seeing the smaller details of any birds you are watching from any great distance away.
The highest magnification you'll want or probably need is 10 to 12.
Any more than that and you'll have a real problem keeping the image you are viewing still.
If you feel you want more magnification, think about getting a pair of stabilized birding binoculars or use a tripod.
Getting the right binoculars for bird watching
Taking advice from someone who knows is the best way to get the right binoculars for bird watching.
I took advice and I now have my own favorite pair of binoculars that I use at every chance I get. That is why I recommend the Nikon 7294 8x42 binoculars for bird watching.
