When it comes to action/shooting games, the guns you choose can make or break your success. The best guns depend on which game, which gamer, and which tactical scenario you find yourself in. Consideration is given to the five main classes of gamer guns, their popularity, and the games they're in to bring you a list of the Top Ten Gamer Guns (and their civilian equivalents).

Assault Rifles

Some versions of the M16, and its civilian counter-part, the AR-15, have not only been everywhere in gaming, but have been at the top of their class and perhaps the best (gamer) guns in the world. These are the primary guns to bring into any gamer battlefield. The "Black Rifle" is the one you pick for stealth (MGS), full-on combat (MW2) pure chaos (GTA) or fighting off massive zombie hordes (Left 4 Dead). And no matter what you need it to do, the M16 (AR-15) can get it done.

AK-47: Modern Warfare 2, Black, GTA Series, Counter Strike:

Neck-and-neck in the battle for greatest (gamer) gun in the world, the AK-47 is battle-hardened, time tested and found almost everywhere guns meet games. The AK-47 may not be as accurate as the AR-15, but it is often cited as the definitive assault rifle for any engagement. As the cream-of-the-crop in MW2, the AK-47 can't be denied on a cyber playing field.

Sub-Machine Guns (SMG)

My favorite use of this gun, though, has got to be when a friend picks up the sticks with Sheva in RE:5 and lays down suppressive fire on some lickers while I break out the big guns.

P90 (PS90): Counter-Strike, GoldenEye, Black, Modern Warfare 2, Rainbow Six

Bond's favorite power weapon in GoldenEye (known there as the RCP-90). In games of modern combat this gun is bad-ass. Designed for the 5.7x28mm round, a tailor-made tactical cartridge, the P90 and its civilian cousin the PS90 are well known for cutting down targets in a hurry.
