Pressure washers can be used for a variety of indoor and outdoor commercial and industrial cleaning jobs. For outdoor applications such as cleaning sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, and building exteriors, a pressure washer is simply the best option. However, finding the right pressure cleaner for use outdoors can be a bit more complicated. The following are some tips to select the right power washer for outdoor cleaning and graffiti removal jobs.

Mobile or Stationary

One can classify pressure washing machines based on their portability as mobile and stationary equipment. Mobile machines are best suited for outdoor cleaning jobs, as operators can more readily reach different areas. Mobile equipment can be further classified into wheel-mounted machines and truck- or trailer-mounted machines.

Wheel-mounted machines, as the name suggests, have wheels attached to the base. The operator can push these machines to transfer them from one place to another. This is ideal for small-sized machines.

For bigger machines, it is better to select truck- or trailer-mounted equipment. It makes the cleaning job much easier since these machines can be transferred via means of a vehicle.

Output Temperature

There are three types of industrial pressure washers according to output temperature: cold water, hot water, and steam pressure washers. Cold water pressure washers provide an output temperature at room temperature; hot water machines have an output temperature of 210°F, while steam machines have an output temperature of 330°F.

Of these three machines, steam output is the most powerful as it readily dissolves stubborn deposits. After all, cleaning power increases as temperature increases.

To reap the benefits of all three machines, a tri-mode system is best. Tri-mode pressure cleaners offer all three kinds of output: cold water, hot water, and steam, to meet varying applications.

Power Level

The output pressure level of a power washer is important in determining its power. The output pressure level can vary from 500 psi to 8000 psi. Higher pressure levels translate to higher cleaning power. Since each application is unique, pressure levels must be selected on the basis of the intended application.

Another specification closely related to output pressure is the flow rate. It is a measure of the quantity of water that flows through the output of the machine, expressed as gallons per minute (GPM). Usually, the flow rate increases along with the output pressure. In some cases, where drainage facilities are poor, one may have to select a machine with a low flow rate.

Graffiti Removal

Removing graffiti and stains from compound walls and sidewalks is very common outdoor cleaning job. One can find commercial pressure washers specially designed for the task of removing graffiti. These machines can blast away almost all types of graffiti and stains.

One can further improve the graffiti removing capability of these machines by using a green graffiti remover chemical in conjunction with the system.
