Binoculars are the most important piece of equipment that you should have when you are going for a hunting expedition or even for a birding session. The reason being that there are special needs for each kind of hunting is it deer hunting or turkey hunting or it is simply elk hunting.
There are two main things that you need to know in binoculars to make a good decision. The first thing is the magnification of the binoculars. The magnification of the binoculars means the how much closer you will be able to see the object. In general if you read the specification of the binoculars they will write the main specification as 8x42 which will mean that the magnification power of binoculars is 8x. This means that the object will appear eight times closer.
The second part of the equation is the diameter of the objective lens. This diameter means how big the objective lens through which you will be viewing the object is. The bigger the lens the better light will be able to come through to you and the brighter will the image. However you just cannot have a very big binocular because then it will become very heavy and bulky. Bulky binoculars are not easily handled and your hand will shake while you are viewing the object. You will need a tripod stand to make sure that you can view the object without shaking with a bigger objective lens. That is why the optimum size of the binocular is the either 8x42 or 10x42 while hunting.
These sizes give you enough magnification as well as have a very decent objective lens diameter. It will be easy to carry them when you are out on a hunting expedition.
Another feature that you should be aware of is the field of view of the binoculars. This is defined as the span of view that you can see from the binoculars when standing at a distance of 1000 yards. For the hunting folks the span of view should be less as you need not see the entire field but just the prey. That is opposite than what is needed for the birding folks. They need to see the entire field and enjoy the birds as well as the scan the entire area for more birds.
So select the hunting binoculars wisely to ensure that the pair of lenses that you get are useful to you and the you enjoy your hunting expeditions.
